In the beautiful rural hamlet of Akıncı this fantastically refurbished Mediterranean cottage (renovated in 2004) sits at the head of the village stream. Surrounded by orchards and fields on every side it’s easy to forget the daily grind one has left behind in Europe. This lovely home, with its well planned guest annex, is bound to be popular because it is out of the ordinary with interesting rooflines and superb architectural detail. Cottage The cottage sits at the center of a walled garden and is very picturesque with white washed walls and decorative Muğla stone slabs along the exterior walls. The same attention to detail and use of local materials is also apparent as soon as one steps inside. The current owners have raised the walls and roof so each room feels spacious and airy. The first thing to catch the eye are the exposed beams that highlight the 16 foot (4.8m) high ceilings. Made from 3 inch thick hardwood beams these timbers are typical of the top quality supplies used during the refurbishment in 2004. The 30cm thick walls are another notable feature keeping the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. İn an increasingly sophisticated market this is a home for people who do not want to live in a `brand new box`. The Garden One of the most appealing features of this home is the wraparound garden with different feature areas. There are raised terraces for outside dining, a large sun terrace immediately adjoining the house and a sweet plunge pool with a waterfall made from local rock and screened for privacy. All of these benefit from the afternoon breeze that blows in unobstructed from sarıgerme beach every afternoon. The gardens are mature with fruit trees including mulberry, pomegranate, orange, lemon, mandarin, banana and plum. There are huge mature cactus and aloe vera as well as a variety of flowering shrubs. All of this is exceptionally low maintenance as the ground has been laid with gravel and there is a full American style automatic irrigation system that means all one needs to do for the watering is flick a switch and sit back with a beer while the pumps do the work. The house has its own fresh water supply via a deep artesian well. At the front of the property there is off road parking for two cars. The views to the mountains visible from every part of the garden will not be obscured as there is no building permission for the fields around the house. İnside the Cottage Though there is a steel front door most often the entrance off the sun terrace is the most used way to come in and presents the house to great advantage. The first room one enters is the `wintergarden` space. The open-flowing layout of this room is specifically designed to bring the outdoors in during the winter. With its open fireplace, exposed beams and south facing windows it’s easy to see why this room would be snug in winter with beautiful views out over the orchards. The wintergarden leads through to the lounge, a nicely proportioned cosy room mainly used in the colder months with its own wood burning stove. From the lounge one can walk through to the bedroom in one direction and the kitchen in another. The bedroom is a large double with old style Turkish wardrobes and views from the windows to the orange groves. During the summer The current owners often sleep outside during the summer on the sun terrace. The kitchen is a magnificent space, rustic with terracotta tiles, an open fireplace, Muğla stone ornamentation, a marble topped central island, traditional Turkish kitchen cupboards with Buldan fabric curtains and enough room to have a table seating at least twelve. The property has one bathroom in the main house (and another in the annex) but what a bathroom! Clean, green and white, with its own wood burning stove, a circular fully tiled walk in shower and marble massage table it might become your favourite place to spend quality me-time! Being sold fully furnished and with quality floor tiles throughout and full double glazing and mosquito screens this is a perfect house for year round habitation. The Guest Annex For the perfect comfort of your friends and relatives the rear of the property houses the guest quarters. Decorated in a similar style to the main house this mini cottage has its own kitchen, lounge, double bedroom and large bathroom. İt is entered through an extra large wooden front door into the kitchen which has a marble table, marble worktops and a Muğla stone splashback. As you enter the lounge via the arched doorway you are able to appreciate the generous dimensions of the lounge and its attractive wooden ceilings and decor. Another archway leads into the sympathetically styled bedroom and ensuite fully tiled bathroom. Outside amenities İn addition to two outside marble sinks, there is at the rear of the property a garden shed and some rabbit hutches. Akıncı This hamlet is in a rural area mainly made up of citrus and pomegranate orchards and small farms. The scenery is framed on each side by imposing mountains yet the exceptionally long Sarıgerme beach is only a 10 minute drive and the Blue Flag İztuzu beach is only 15 minutes drive. A car is included with the sale of the property but for those who don’t drive there are regular bus services to the beach and to the nearest town (Ortaca). Dalaman İnternational Airport is only 15km away and serviced by year round charter and scheduled flights.
